Théodore Gautier, the well-known Gapençais historian (1780-1846), wrote the curious and spicy study that we are about to read, in December 1822. We borrow it from the author's original manuscripts. Some of these precious manuscripts were donated recently, with great generosity, to the Société d'Études des Hautes-Alpes. Everything gives us hope that the other part will soon come to enrich the Departmental Archives, where their place is naturally indicated alongside the manuscripts, no less precious, of Vallon-Corse, Janson, Charronnet and others still ...
