Juècs d'Espacis e de Temps - Reinat TOSCANO

Fantastic Italian short stories (Rodari, Benni, etc.) adapted into Nicoise Occitan.

In his collection Retorns, published in 2013, mixing literary invention and memories of family or childhood, Reinat Toscano had gathered personal texts in Occitan around two main themes extremely related: space and time, when everything intertwines and gets confused to complicate things. And as Reinat Toscano is an Italian teacher, he felt like sharing with Occitan-speaking readers some selected Italian texts in the same vein, when time stops or speeds up, from Dino Buzzati to Gianni Rodari or Stefano Benni, by adapting them into Nice language. These are texts that remain universal, because space and time, precisely, have no borders. The translator has tried to remain as close as possible to the original version, but he has also adapted the texts to the Occitan spirit, possibly to the particularity of Nice, for example in the names of certain characters and places.

Collection Au Viu Leupard, editions des Régionalismes (PRNG).

The author:

Reinat Toscano, born in Nice in 1959, Grand Prix de Littérature du Comité des Traditions Niçoises, teaches Italian and Occitan. His work in Occitan is rich and varied, since his poem Regrelh (1984). Besides poetry, in Occitan and in Italian, he is known for his comedies (Revira-mainatge, Mistèri au comissariat) and for his novels: dark novels such as Darrièr la nuèch or Secret de chin, or humorous novels with the adventures of the policeman Matieu Sampeyre. Without forgetting his songs, in particular for the Corou de Bèrra. He is also known for his work on the language, with the Gramàtica dau Niçard or for the elaboration of a Dictionary all in Niçois.
