This vinyl box set proposed by Massilia Sound System is like a return to the roots, an invitation to rediscover the spirit of the sound system and why not to take over the instrumental version for its own expression. The box set contains ten classics of the Marseille-based group, totally updated, re-recorded on new music, mixed and mastered with today's means.

"A cavalòt sus la version", straddling the version, if this line from a Massilia Sound System song may seem obscure to many, for lovers of Jamaican music and sound systems, it immediately evokes the gesture of the DJ turning over the small vinyl disk on his turntable to play the instrumental of the track and allow the MCs to create again on the music, by interpreting their own song. In this gesture lies all the innovation of the sound system: ease, immediacy, reactivity that make this musical form a real new media, an ingenious and accessible invention that triggered the worldwide attraction for this art from Jamaica and the desire of many to take advantage of this B side to express their reality.

The band:

Created in 1984 in Marseille, the band Massilia Sound System has imposed its folkloric style and has participated in the export of the 'Occitan' culture throughout France. Exploring a multitude of musical universes, the group has constantly renewed itself while keeping its unique style. With a first album released in 1992 "Parla Patois", Massilia Sound System celebrated its 30th anniversary.
