In this year of grace 2017, we will celebrate the 700th anniversary of the Enclave des Papes.

This small, at once devout and savage rural community was able to withstand the inclinations of annexation of the kings of France, while taking advantage of the leniency of the pontifical power.

It took revolutionary excitement to make it reluctantly adhere to republican ideas in the wake of Avignon.

This play, created as part of the Festival des Nuits de l’Enclave, evokes the arrival of the revolution in the Haut-Comtat and the future attachment to the Republic. Barbaras near Bouchet, was one of the many smugglers' paths whose activity flourished during the 500 years of pontifical suzerainty.
