To reach the savannah, five animals confront Mr. Kouma, their protector.
Will fear of danger be enough to hold them back?

The story takes place in a village near the savannah. Mr. Kouma wants, for their own good but against their will, to protect his animal friends from the "savagery" of the surrounding countryside. But the animals, driven by a desire for freedom, oppose their protector's views. Will he succeed?

True to the tradition of storytelling, in Rêves de Savane the animals speak, and some of the men understand them. The animals each have their own personality, but they are all driven by the same desire for freedom, a willingness to follow their desires and curiosity, and as the story unfolds, they deploy different strategies to oppose the behavior and opinions of Monsieur Kouma, their naive protector. This original and humorous story is a straightforward recounting of the laws of nature. It explores attitudes to envy, fear, risk and authority.

This bilingual book is a wonderful introduction to languages. The exceptional quality of the bold pastel illustrations makes each page a true work of art.
