L’etèrne retorn d’Adam - Jules VERNE

Translated from "L'éternel Adam" into Occitan by Sèrgi Viaule.

This posthumous short story, published in 1910, is in stark contrast to Jules Verne's work, which is known to be rather optimistic, and in which the progress of science and inventions are the future of humanity. Here we are in a completely different register, much more pessimistic: the world of men is confronted with its brutal and inexorable disappearance. And the humanity saved, in extremis, is only to fall back into its worst failings of war, extermination...

A very modern text, very much in the contemporary news, which, a century away, seems to be written for the beginning of the 21st century. First edition in Occitan language of a dystopian text by Jules Verne!

Occitan translation by Sèrgi Viaule.

Collection Au Viu Leupard, editions des Régionalismes.

The author:
Jules Verne, born in 1828 in Nantas, died in 1905 in Amiens. He was the missing popularizer of the story that later on would become a literary genre for him: the Science-Fiction.

The translator:
Sèrgi Viaule born in Albigés and he still lives there. He has been writing since his adolescence. He speaks a natural language and understands it well, because it is written in a daily practice. In literature it is always there and I hope not. But, in literature for literature, his only ambition and creed is: "Do the language".
After publishing "Na Balfet", a first novel for the gendarmerie, as well as other classic novels and novellas, Sèrgi Viaule returned to the translation of classics.
