This little book does not pretend to constitute an exhaustive compendium of the language and the oral traditions of the Country of Guillaumes. But it is a starting point to gather all the enthusiasts of the high valleys of Var, Tuébi and Cians around a language that is our common good.

Languages ​​are a common good of humanity that must be preserved. This is not only true for widely used languages ​​such as French, but also for all the languages ​​of the world. Each language is a real library that provides access to a wide range of knowledge. This applies to the languages ​​of our ancestors, stigmatized under the name of patois and which are in fact parlers belonging to one of the great languages ​​of European culture, Occitan.

In the valleys of the canton of Guillaumes "historic" - Var, Tuébi, Haut-Cians - our speaking, Provencal alpine, also called gavot, is a dialect of Occitan, language "seriously in danger" according to the criteria elaborated in by UNESCO. This fact led our friend Henri Giordan, resident at Valberg and recognized specialist of the right of minority languages, to utter a cry of alert.
