Le Croissant linguistique: entre oc, oïl et francoprovençal - Des mots à la grammaire, des parlers aux aires

(The linguistic crescent: between oc, oïl and francoprovençal. From words to grammar, from parlers to areas)

The Crescent corresponds to the mixed zone where the three major Gallo-Romance areas meet: oc, oïl and francoprovençal. It stretches from the Montagne Bourbonnaise (Allier) to the center of the Charente. The languages spoken in this area, which simultaneously display characteristics of Occitan, Oïl and sometimes Francoprovençal, call into question intangible boundaries and established categories. Not really (or sufficiently?) Oc, not really Oïl, not really Francoprovençal either, the languages of the Crescent have long remained on the bangs of language studies. Now on the verge of extinction, these languages deserve to be better (re)known, both from a scientific and heritage point of view.

The collective project "Les Parlers du Croissant", which brings together researchers and speakers, aims to illustrate and study these original dialect varieties, by collecting data from those who still speak them and by synthesizing available sources. The present work is the fruit of the efforts that the project team has been devoting to the Crescent languages for over five years, from an open, multidisciplinary perspective.
