Chants occitans du Périgord et d'ailleurs - Etienne Roux

(Occitan songs from Périgord and elsewhere) - Third edition, reviewed and augmented.

A collection of twenty traditional Occitan songs, mainly from the Périgord. A good part of these popular songs come from the reference work "Chansons patoises du Périgord" (1902) by the abbots E. Casse and E. Chaminade (remarkable work as it was done at the end of the 19th century) , and collections by Jean Roux, Jacme Surpas and Michel Chadeuil. Without counting those whose exact origin it is difficult to determine, for they are, indeed, popular songs. Who can say from where he knows the Turlututû? "We have indicated the origin of each song whenever we know it."

Four others come from other regions: Béarn, Rouergue, Limousin, Provence ...

In the book, we find for each song: the "ready to use" score, sometimes harmonized with two or three voices, Occitan lyrics and their French translation, and a small presentation text (on origin and meaning) with indication of sources.

On the CD, you will hear 17 of these songs, performed by the singing group Los Zinzonaires.

Editions Novelum-IEO.
