Cançons del meu vilatge - CORDAE La Talvera (Livre + CD)
(Songs of my village)

Daniel Loddo, set to music by Céline Ricard

Las cançons de vilatges, the village songs, sort of local hymns, multiplied in Occitania - as in other regions - essentially between 1850 and 1950. One of the oldest, Tolosenca, composed by Lucien Mengaud in 1844, undoubtedly influenced many later compositions.
Singing one's town or village (in Occitan in this case) is still today a way of positioning oneself in relation to others, to neighboring towns, but also of asserting one's culture in relation to the dominant language.
Beyond the clichés inherent to this type of composition, we discover poignant and fascinating historical, ethnographic and linguistic testimonies, which are as many invitations to travel in space and time.

This collection brings together more than 80 songs collected in a geographical area that essentially encompasses the Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot, Aveyron, and a final chapter that includes an anthology from a larger Occitan territory.
In addition to the transcription and translation of the texts, there are the corresponding scores, numerous comments and photographs, both of the time and of today.

The book is completed by an MP3 CD, interpreted by musicians of the group La Talvera.

Collection "Mémoires sonores", editions CORDAE - La Talvera.
